Tucker is a village in Waltham, Massachusetts. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,393.
History
Tucker was established as a separate village in the early 20th century, after a housing boom in the surrounding areas. The community was named after the Tucker family.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.6 square miles (6.9 km²), of which 2.6 square miles (6.8 km²) is land and 0.13% is water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,403 people, 577 households, and 387 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,918.2 people per square mile (732.3/km²). There were 598 housing units at an average density of 843.5 per square mile (325.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 95.91% White, 1.26% Black or African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 1.19% from other races, and 0.92% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.18% of the population.
There were 577 households out of which 29.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 27.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.93.
